Abstract
Objective To investigate lipid peroxidation injury during renal ischemic/reperfusion in rats. Methods Bilateral renal ischemia was induced by clamping the renal pedicles for 45 minutes. No reperfusion or 30 min and 24 h of reperfusion was allowed in separate groups. Malondialdehyde (MDA) levels and superoxide dismutase (SOD) activities were determined to assess lipid peroxidation. Pathologic changes were studied by optic microscopy. Results The renal content of MDA in ischemia/reperfusion groups was increased,but not significantly in the ischemic group. The activity of SOD in renal tissue decreased both in ischemic group and in ischemic/reperfusion groups. The renal histomorphological damages in ischemia/reperfusion groups were more serious than that in the simple ischemic group. Conclusion Lipid peroxidation is involved in renal ischemic/reperfusion injury.
