Abstract
Speech Act Theory,advanced by J.Austin,promoted the development of Ordinary Language Philosophy to further study,while the Indirect Speech Act Theory founded by J.Searle perfected the Speech Act Theory.It expounded the meaning of language from the perspective of use and communication,and provides a unique way to explain the essence of illocutionary force.This paper traces the philosophic origin of speech act,explores the explanation,classification and the linguistic philosophy of Indirect Speech Act Theory,and points out the limitation of the theory as well.
