Clinical efficacy of treatment of oral and maxillofacial multiple space infections

OBJECTIVE To investigate the therapeutic effect of incision and drainage for abscess combined with hyperbaric oxygen on treatment of oral and maxillofacial multiple space infections.METHODS Totally 120 patients with oral and maxillofacial multiple space infections were chosen in the period from Oct 2010 to May 2012 in the hospital and randomly divided into two groups including control group (n=60) with conventional symptomatic treatment and observation group (n=60) with incision and drainage for abscess combined with hyperbaric oxygen treatment on the basis of control group;and the total effective rate white blood cell count before and after the treatment and incidence of complication occurrence of both groups were compared.RESULTS The total effective rate of observation group (96.7%) was significantly higher than that of the control group (80.0%)(P0.05).The white blood cell count of control the group was (6.15±0.75)109/L,the observation group (2.49±0.34)109/ L,both were significantly improved as compared with that before the treatment and improvement degree of the observation group was significantly better than that of the control group (P0.05).And the incidence of complication of the observation group (1.7%) was significantly lower than that of the control group (11.7%)(P 0.05).CONCLUSION As used in the treatment of oral and maxillofacial multiple space infctions;incision and drainage for abscess combined with hyperbaric oxygen can efficiently control infections,relieve clinical symptoms,and reduce the risk of complication,and it is worthy of clinical application.
