Abstract

OBJECTIVE To investigate the clinical effect of ultrasound-guided puncture in the treatment of maxillofacial space infections.METHODS A total of 66 patients with maxillofacial space infections from Jan 2008 to Feb 2012 in our hospital, who were treated under ultrasound-guided puncture, were set as the observation group.66 cases with antibiotics intravenous treatment at the same period were set as the control group. The total effective rate, effective time and serum CRP,PCT content 1 day and 3 days before the treatment for the two groups of patients were taken for statistics and comparison.RESULTS The total effective rate of treatment in the observation group was 100.00%,higher than 93.94% in the control group, the effective time was(6.8±1.6) days in the observation group,(10.5±1.9)day in the control group, both the serum CRP and the PCT levels 1 day and 3 days after treatment were lower in the observation group than in the control group, the differences were statistically significant(P0.05).CONCLUSION The ultrasound-guided puncture is effective in the treatment and control of maxillofacial space infections.
