Abstract
Aim: To investigate the expression of proapoptotic gene bax and evaluate its oncogenesis significance. Methods: Seventy one samples of epithelial ovarian tumour specimens were analyzed by SABC immunohistochemical stain for proapoptotic Bax protein expression. Results: The positive rates of Bax expression among the malignant, borderline and benign tumours were 40.5%, 62.5% and 38.9% respectively, and no significant difference was observed ( P 0.05).The positive rates of Bax expressions of early and late stages of cancer were 50.0% and 37.9% respectively, with no significant difference ( P 0.05); the Bax expression rates among pathologic grades I, II and III were 66.7%, 40.0% and 23.1% respectively, with significant difference between grades I and III ( P 0.05). Conclusion: There is an overexpression of Bax in epithelial ovarian cancer. The positive rate of bax is lower in pathologic grade Ⅲ than in grade I, while the proportion of expression of Bax in malignant and benign tumours as well as the clinical stages of cancer has not been observed.
