Relationship between electrogastrogram and gastric emptying in patients with gastric cancer

Objective To study whether there was or not relationship between gastric electrical activity and gastric emptying by electrogastrogram and gastric emptying test.Methods Twenty-seven patients with gastric cancer(gastric cancer group) and 20 healthy people(control group) were detected by electrogastrogram and gastric emptying test.Results ①Dominant power(DP) and tachygastria(T%) in gastric cancer group were all evidently higher than that of control group,normal range(N%) was lower than that of control group.②In control group,the rate of normal gastric empting was 75.0%(15/20),but it was 33.3%(9/27) in patients with gastric cancer(P=0.007).Of 18 patients showing delayed gastric emptying in group of gastric cancer,83.3%(15/18) had abnormal electrogastrogram;Of 15 patients with abnormal electrogastrogram,73.3%(11/15) had tachygastria,and 26.67%(4/15) had bradygastria.Of the patients showing normal gastric emptying in group of gastric cancer,33.3%(3/9) had abnormal electrogastrogram,all the 3 cases having the characteristic tachygastria.③Fasting and postprandial N% of gastric cancer had a significant positive correlation with 4-hour gastric emptying rate(P0.05),T% had a significant negative correlation with 4-hour gastric emptying rate(P0.05).Conclusion The patients with gastric cancer have abnormal gastric myoelectrical activity,including the decrease of N%,increase of DP and T%.Fasting and postprandial N% of gastric cancer have a significant positive correlation with 4-hour gastric emptying rate,T% has a significant negative correlation with 4-hour gastric emptying rate.
