Abstract
Water/crude oil interfacial tension, interfacial film strength and percentage of removed water from crude oil emulsions in the presence of demulsifiers was measured. It was shown that the change of interfacial tension is related to its initial status. The change reflects the degree to which demulsifier molecular absorbed on interface.Interfacial tension cannot be used to evaluate demulsifiers effectiveness of demulsification. Those demulsifiers which can not only absorb on interface strongly, but also lower interfacial film strength drastically are able to break crude oil emulsion effectively.
