Abstract

Objective To investigate the serum thyroid hormone levels and clinical characteristics in patients with alcoholic cirrhosis. Methods A total of 87 cases of cirrhosis, including alcoholic cirrhosis 36 cases(alcohol group),liver cirrhosis 51 cases(hepatitis B group),healthy volunteers 11 cases(control group).According to liver function, patients with alcoholic cirrhosis were classified by Child-pugh classification, and detected the serum thyroid hormone concentrations by radioimmunoassay. Results Serum levels of TT3,FT3,TT4 and FT4 in cirrhosis groups were significantly lower than those in healthy control group(P0.01),and the above index in hepatitis B group were lower than those in alcohol group(P0.01).With the increase of liver function in alcohol cirrhosis group,FT3 and FT4 decreased gradually. Conclusion Cirrhotic patients with abnormal thyroid hormone levels, especially in patients with alcoholic cirrhosis, thyroid hormone levels showed the dynamic change with degree of liver function.
