Abstract

Objective To contrast the clinical effect of using Bi-level airway pressure ventilation(BiPAP) and to treat agedchronic obstructive pulmonary diseases(COPD) complicating type Ⅱrespiratory failure. Methods 90 cases of the type Ⅱrespiratory failure of COPD were divided into treatment group(n = 45) and control group(n = 45).Two groups were all used convention drug treatment.Simultaneously the treatment group was used BiPAP's breathing apparatus on the base of the routine therapy. Results There were PaO2 and PaCO2's improvement among arterial blood of the patients to tolerance better for BiPAP treatment in post-treatment(P 0.01),their average hospital day decreased compared with the control group(P 0.05),Improving time of blood gas were shorten, heart rate and frequency of breath was slower, but it didn't influence blood pressure of the patient(P 0.05).Conclusion It's a safe and effective therapeutic approach to use the breathing apparatus of BiPAP for the sake of treating the type Ⅱrespiratory failure of aged COPD,and has perfectly perspective in future. It is worthy of clinical generalization and utilization.
