Abstract

Objective To study therapeutic value of bi-level positive airway pressure(BIPAP) ventilation in treatment of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD) and respiratory failure typeⅡ.Methods Totally 86 patients were randomly divided into control group(44) and treatment group(42),and therapeutic effects were compared in two groups. Results Before BIPAP therapy, therewas no difference in age, disturbance of consciousness, blood gas analysis and heart rate between two groups.4 days after BIPAP therapy, arterial partial pressure ofoxygen ascended and arterial carbon dioxide tension decreased in both groups, but improvement of blood gas analysis in treatment group was better than that in control group. Conclusions BIPAP ventilation is an effective therapy in patients with COPD with respiratory failure typeⅡ than medcine.
