Liu Yi- zheng's Discussion on the Principles and Methods of History Research of the Traditional Chinese Historiography

Liu Yi- zheng,a master of modern Chinese historiography with the cultural conservatism position,combined the new western historiography thought and made a lot of Chinese traditional historiography. He expounds the principles and methods of history research of the traditional Chinese historiography abundantly and deeply. His ideas mainly include five aspects:firstly,the principle ofHistorical research must be based on fundamental of moral; secondly,moral evaluation and criterion of national history writing; thirdly,the relations among historical insights,the moral of historians and history method. Besides,history research is mainly to obtain historical insights; fourthly,attaching great importance to the records and descriptions of widespread contacts among historical facts; fifthly,correct understanding of textual research on the status and role in history research. Liu Yi- zheng's ideas reflected the basic characteristics of his historical thought,namely,the penetration of ancient and modern,the fusion of Chinese and Western.
