Abstract
Due to lack of specifications and effective guidelines in application of microscopic traffic simulation models in China, the many applications of traffic simulation usually follow system default values and ignore parameters calibration and model validation for individual cases. To address this problem, this paper summarizes the procedure of microscopic traffic simulation through reviewing the research and application experience.Based on a VISSIM simulation case study, the paper elaborates the procedure of model development, parameters calibration, and assessment of simulation results.
