Transrectal ultrasound guided 10-core prostate biopsy for diagnosis of prostate cancer

Objective To explore the clinical value of transrectal ultrasound guided 10-core prostate biopsy for diagnosis prostate cancer. Methods 104patients underwent prostate biopsy in our hospital were retrospectively evaluated.On the basis of prostatic anatomy,all of the 104patients accept systematic 6-core prostate biopsy(group A)and additional 4-core biopsy in the medial area(group C)and two in the lateral(group B).The specimens were sent to pathological department to examinate. Results Prostate cancers were detected in 42cases.The total positive rate was 40.4%(42/104),of which 25cases in the group A(accounting for 59.5%in total cancer),9cases in the group B(21.4%),and 8cases in the group C(19.0%),and the false-negative rate was 4.7%.The incidence of postoperative complications was 15.4%,and no serious complication occurred. Conclusions Transrecta1ultrasound guided 10-core prostate biopsy is a safe and reliable method,which can be used as a clinical choice for prostate biopsy.
