Affect of Gamma Irradiation on the expression of CD62P of apheresis platelets

Abstract

Objective To investigate the affect of gamma irradiation on the activation of apheresis platelets and the clinical effect of the irradiated platelets.Methods Thirty units of apheresis platelets were divided into two groups,one was irradiated with γ-ray at the dose of 30Gy,and the other served as a control.Platelet activation marker CD62P was determined on the day before storage and after 1,3,5 days of storage with Flow Cytometry;the curative effect of γ-ray irradiated apheresis platelet transfusion in patients was observed.Results There were no significant differences between the expressions of CD62P of the irradiated and those of the non-irradiated groups on day0,1,3 of storage(P0.05).The expression of CD62P of the non-irradiated groups was more than that of the irradiated groups on day5(P0.05).The PLT counts increased in all patients in 24hrs after transfusion.Bleeding in all patients was improved.There was no significant differences between the two groups.Conclusions Irradiation has no adverse effect on the activation and the treatment efficacy of apheresis platelets.γ-ray irradiated platelet are the similar in increaseing patients' peripheral blood PLT counts and preventing bleeding.
