Abstract
Objective:To observe therapeutic efficacy and side effects with risperidone for schizophrenia. Methods: Risperidone was used to treat 38 cases with schixopherenia or schizoid psychosis. The therapeutic respose was assessed by the positive and negative syndrome scale (PANSS) combined with clinical global impression (CGI) and side effects by extrapyramidal side reaction scale (ESRS) associated with treatment emergent symptom scare (TESS) on the day of admission and at the ends of 1st week, then 2nd, 4th as well as 8th respectively. Results: In the course of therapy, the mean effective dosage of risperidone was 3mg/d. PANSS was reduced to 72.22± 15.48, the excellent results were showed within 8.5±3.2d, the excellent rate 71% and effective one 92.6% . The main side effects were headache, dipsia, drowsiness, tachycardia and nauseaetc. Conclusion: Risperidone is effective drug for both positive and negative symptoms of schizophrenia with much security.
