Abstract
Objective:To evaluate the effect of transcatheter arterial embolization(TAE) combined with CT guided percutaneous ethanol mixed lipiodol-ultrafluid(10:1) injection(CT-PEI) in treatment of huge hepatic cavernous hemangioma(HHCH) Methods:Thirty-two patients with 42 hemangiomas were confirmed by CT scan and angiography.Among them 6 cases were confirmed(demonstrated) by biopsy. One case occured hemorrhagic shock 10 minutes after biopsy and the emergency TAE was performed at once, then the patient recovered. The tumor volume in the study was 1.80 to 572.00 cm3(166.80±125.80 cm3).Thirty-two patients were performed TAE treatment once, then CT-PEI were given for 178 times(mean 4.24±2.14 times/tumor).Results:the complete resolutin was observed in the 42 tumors in six months after the treatment. The significant reduction(88.21% ±6.18%) of the volume in 40 tumors were observed in the six months,t=8.23,P0.01.All patients were followed-up from 10 to 96 months, means 51.34±21.41 months. The further reduction of volume in 42 tumors were observed, tow tumors occur recurrence at the tumor edges. Conclusion:TAE combined with CT-PEI is a safe and effective therapeutic method with few side effects for the hepatic cavernous hemangioma.
