Abstract
Since the implementation of Reform and Opening up to Outside World, the tourism industry of China has experienced rapid growths and considerable modernization.Agglomeration has become a significant driving force in tourism development while inducing significant inequalities in tourism distribution between eastern coastal gateways and inland western provinces.Considering spatial distance, this article constructs the variables of market power and agglomeration density and tests the mechanism of tourism industry agglomeration and regional disparity based on tourism-firm-level panel data from 2000 to 2009 from the dimension of market potential.Furthermore,it analyzes the effect of tourism agglomeration to the development of tourism enterprises from the angel of density of tourism economic activities.According to theoretical and empirical model, this article reaches following conclusion: tourism market potential and agglomeration density have a positive and statistically significant effect on revenues of tourism enterprises, which provides a new explanation perspective for tourism spatial agglomeration of China and empirical support for New Economic Geography theory based on data in developing countries.
