Abstract

Objective To study the efficacy and safety of escitalopram in the treatment of depression. Methods 77 patients who met CCMD-3 criterion for depression episode were randomly assigned to escitalopram group(n=39)with 10~20 mg per day and fluoxetine group(n=38)with 20-40 mg per day for the treatment of 6 weeks.Clinical effectiveness was evaluated using HAMD and HAMA,and adverse reactions and safety were assessed with TESS and laboratory exam ination. Results There was no significant difference of the efficacy between two groups(P0.05).The response rate and rem ission rate were 87.2% and 48.7% for escitalopram group and were 86.8% and 47.42% for fluoxetine group respectively.Escitalopram showed rapider efficacy and less side effects than fluoxetine(P0.05).Conclusion Escitalopram is an effective and safe antidepressant.
