Abstract

genera and 20 species of conodonts have been found from the Taiyuan and Benxi Formations in the Jining Coalfield (east area), Shandong Province. According to the geographical distribution and vertical variation of conodont fossils in the strata, the conodonts may be distinguished into 2 assemblages as following (in descending order): Ⅱ.Streptognathodus isolatus and Ⅰ. Idiognathodus magnificus-I. delica-tus assemblage. Compared with those in nearby regions and some other areas in North China, the geological ages of the fauna in the Jining coalfield should be early Early Permian(assemblage Ⅱ) and late Late Carboniferous(assemblage Ⅰ) respectively, and the Carboniferous-Permian boundary in the Jining coalfield (east area) should be placed at the bottom of No.11 limestone.
