Abstract
Based on the study on the biostratigraphy and foraminifera fauna in the Taiyuan Formation of Jining coalfield (east area) in Shandong province, 28 genera and 155 species of foraminifera have been identified. According to the distribution and vertical variation of foraminifera fossils in the strata, the foraminifera may be distinguished in descending order into 3 assemblages:Ⅲ. Tetrataxis parviconica Nodosaria longa Geinitzina spandeli , Ⅱ . Echinonodosaria echinata Glomospira regularis , Ⅰ. Bradyina sphaeroidea Palaeotextulariae assemblages. Compared with those in nearby regions and some other areas in North China, the geological age of foraminifera fauna in the Taiyuan Formation of Jining coalfield should be the early Early Permian, so the Carboniferous Permian boundary in Jining coalfield (east area) should be placed at the base of No.11 limestone in the Taiyuan Formation.
