Abstract

Chinese Confucian idea about moral education, which is rich in content, has a long history. After investigating the intellectual history of Confucian moral education,we find there was a transformation from the Confucianism of the pre-Qin period to the NeoConfiicianism. This change can be summed up as:on the premise that Social Standard is the purpose of moral education, the Confucianism of the pre-Qin period put more emphasis on subjective initiative, emphasized the subjectivity of people, while the NeoConfiicianism emphasized the restriction to people and moral norm compliance. After considering this change,we may find partially why the Confucian moral education lost its energy and effectiveness. This study has important enlightenment to improve the moral education today which takes the All-round Doctrine as guidance.
