Abstract

Objective To study the therapeutic effect of acupuncture plus rehabilitation training in the treatment of post-stroke upper limb spasticity.Method Thirty patients with post-stroke upper limb spasticity were randomized into a treatment group and a control group,15 in each. The treatment group was given acupuncture to Jing-well points as well as upper anti-spasm points(original),and the rehabilitation training would begin afterwards when the upper limb achieved real-time relief. The control group only received rehabilitation training. Both of the two groups were evaluated by using the Modified Ashworth Scale(MAS) and Fugl-Meyer Assessment(FMA) for the upper limb before intervention and a month after intervention. Results Compared to the control group, the treatment group had advantage in regulating muscular tension and improving the motor function of upper limb, and the differences were statistically significant(P0.01).Conclusion Puncturing Jing-well points and the upper anti-spasm points has a real-time relieving effect for post-stroke upper limb spasticity. It can also enhance the effect of the rehabilitation training.
