Abstract
Objective:To determine the extent of HIV/AIDS awareness, risk behavioral characteristics and STI among female sex workers(FSWs) who are based on the entertainment establishments; to provide information for formulation of HIV/AIDS policy and its strategies.Methods:The FSWs were interviewed at their workplaces using the face to face interviewing method with structured questionnaire. In addition, samples were collected for detection of STD. Results:Low awareness of harmness of STD/AIDS, lack of the knowledge of prevention,furthermore,fail to use condoms consistently by various factors and have no good habits of self health care, so the rates of STD prevalence are high. Conclusions:It is imperative to carry out health education conpaign and intervention on behavior change among FSWs for the prevention and control of STD/AIDS.
