The evaluation of accumulated effectiveness of interventions for AIDS/STD among female sex workers in entertainment establishments in a district in Beijing

Abstract
Objective To explore the accumulated effectiveness of intervention for AIDS/STD among female sex workers(FSWs) in entertainment establishments in a district in Beijing.Methods Measures of historical interventions and accumulated effectiveness were designed.Cross sectional survey was conducted to collect the data on the history of interventions and their effectiveness for AIDS/STD among FSWs.Results A total of 201 FSWs were surveyed.The accumulated effectiveness of interventions showed that their scores of AIDS/STD related knowledge were associated with the number of AIDS/STD education,free HIV testing and free access to condoms.The number of voluntary HIV testing were associated with the number of VCT education,free STD testing,while the number of voluntary STD testing were associated with the number of VCT education and free AIDS/STD testing.There were different factors associated with condom use in the recent month and the last sex with causal male partners.Marital status and scores of AIDS/STD related knowledge were factors associated with condom use in the last sex,free HIV testing was associated with the condom use in the last month.Conclusion The effectiveness of AIDS/STD interventions is influenced by different measures applied.Continuous interventions among FSWs will produce accumulated effectiveness.
