Abstract

Objective To select the optimal therapy for infertile women with polycystic ovary syndrome(PCOS) through clinical observation on therapeutic effects of three different ovulation-stimulating methods for PCOS.Methods Seventy six cases of infertile women with PCOS were randomly divided into three groups:group A treated with clomiphene citrate(CC)(n=24),group B treated with low dosage human menopausal gonadotropin(HMG)(n=26) and group C treated with CC and HMG(n=26).The number of mature follicles on the day of hCG injection, levels of estradiol(E2),luteinizing hormone(LH),and testosterone(T),endometrial thickness, ovulation rate and pregnancy rate were examined and compared among these three groups. Results The serum level of T among 3 groups was similar. The total number of mature follicles in group c was significantly greater than that of group B or group A(2.76±1.57 vs.1.52±1.15 or 1.36±1.32,P0.05).The level of E2 in group A or B was significantly higher than that of group C(P0.05),but the difference between Groups A and B was not significant(P0.05).Endometrial thickness,LH,ovulation rate and pregnancy rate in group A were significantly lower than those of group B or group C(7.34±1.53 vs.10.37±1.58 or 9.76±2.27;8.46±6.35 vs.18.98±21.71 or 21.92±24.50;62.50 vs.80.00 or 85.71;12.50 vs.31.43 or 37.14,P0.05),but the difference between group B and group C was not significant(P0.05).Conclusion The therapeutic regimen with CC and HMG is superior to that of CC or HMG applied singly.
