OU-YANG Xiu's Role from HAN Yu to Song Poetry

The present paper makes an attempt to illuminate OU Yang-xiu's acception of HAN Yu's poetic style in North Song Dynasty, clarifies the artistic relationship between HAN and OU and the three periods witnessed in between till an innovation of poetry typical of prose-styledness. OU learns as well as honours HAN, which sets up the latter's poetic status as a model in North Song; he studies HAN poems but forms his own uniqueness, which results in a poetry revolution. A comparison of the two indicates that the changes chiefly lies in OU's daily life subjedt matters with scholastic characteristics, his concise, aphoristic and rational flavour and free style in narration and orgazation. Furthermore, OU developed his own amialble and fine style out of HAN's exceptional and surprising fashion, the innovation having a significant influence on formation of the new poetic trend in Song.
