Abstract

The corrosion behavior of Cu-Zn-Sn-Al-Ni-B-Mn-Sb-0.05RE and Cu-Zn-Sn-Al-Ni-B-Mn-Sb-0.1RE tin brass corroded in 3.5%NaCl solution and 3.5%NaCl+0.5mol/L NH_4Cl solution were investigated by means of static corrosion test,SEM observation,XRD and X-ray energy spectrum analysis on the corrosion product layer. The results show that corrosion product layer of the tin brass containing rare earth are thin and uniform and bonded strongly with matrix alloys after corrosion in NaCl(3.5%) solution. The addition of Re and B and so on improves Cl~-corrosion resistance.Obvious intercrystalline corrosion and general corrosion of tin brass is observed in 3.5%NaCl+0.5mol/L NH_4Cl solution.Meanwhile, the corrosion resistance of the tin brass in the artificial sea water containing ammonia is improved with increase of rare earth content.
