A Probe into the Formal Methodolgy in Generative Grammar

Abstract

This paper meta-theoretically studied Generative Grammar(GG) as an abstract formal system,mainly for three concerned aspects: how is the formal system set? What is the formal system like? Is there any methodological problem? The paper briefed the third mathematical crisis,and inspected its influence on the formal method in generative grammar.The author holds that it is unnecessary for linguists to harbor the qualms about GG for those difficulties occurring in mathematics and logic.
