The pattern of urban economy of Eastern and Western Zhejiang underwent profound changes during the Southern Song Dynasty, including the establishment of comprehensive economic systems in many cities and the transformation of the internal structures and operating mechanisms of various industries. However, there were obvious discrepancies in the development of urban economy that could be seen between different cities and areas of Eastern and Western Zhejiang.
