Abstract

In order to comply with the evolution trend of the channel of the Yellow River, taking the artificial measures of cut-off on the narrow and curved river reach can not only speed up the transformation process of the river channel from the curved to more straight, but also can avoid the uncontrolled adverse impact of the randomly natural cut-off on the river regime. After the cut-off,the river flow distance can be shortened and the river gradient can be increased along with the decrease of the flow resistance and increase of the smoothenss of the flow, and then the sediment-bearing capacity can be enhanced as well.In this way,the adverse impact from the river on the flood control works can be alleviated, that is favorable to river navigation, deepening of river bed, increase of flood discharge capacity and lowering of water level, sequentially,to improve the flood control conditions of the river channel.
