Abstract

[Objective] To evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of Moxifloxacin in the treatment of elderly patients with community acquired pneumonia (CAP). [Methods] Elderly patients with CAP were treated with moxifloxacin or cefuroxime in a randomized controlled study. [Results] A total of 119 patients were enrolled in this study, 60 patients in Moxifloxacin group, 59 patients in Cefuroxime group. The cure rates and the effective rates of Moxifloxacin group and cefuroxime group were 50%, 39% (P 0.05) and 90%, 69% (P 0.05), respectively. The bacterial eradication rates of the two groups were 84% and 53%, respectively. The rates of adverse reaction in the two groups were 8%, 5% (P 0.05.), respectively. [Conclusion] Moxifloxacin is effective and safe for the treatment of elderly patients with CAP, which has a high clinical value.
