Abstract

Objective To investigate the clinical efficacy of electroacupuncture plus paroxetine in treating depression and its effect on HAMD scale factor scores in depression patients. Method Thirty depression patients were treated with electroacupuncture plus paroxetine for 6 weeks. HAMD scale total score and factor scores were counted before treatment, at the end of 1, 2, 4 and 6 weeks’ treatment and at the end of 4 weeks’ follow-up. Results The total efficacy rate of electroacupuncture plus paroxetine in treating depression was 93.3%. Both HAMD scale total score and factor scores improved significantly. Conclusion Electroacupuncture plus paroxetine can quickly improve the symptoms of depression, especially dyssomnia and psychic anxiety.
