Abstract
This article makes an attempt to study the cognitive nature and cognitive function of metaphor.Metaphor is not only a figure of speech but also a meta-mode of thinking.Basically,metaphor is a cognitive phenomenon.Linguistic metaphor is the result of and tools for human metaphoric cognition.The polysemy benefits from the creation of metaphors.Today,it has been proved that metaphor has contributed a lot to the development of various disciplines of the natural science and the social science that keep an eye upon the findings of their counterparts by ways of metaphorization.
