Abstract

Column experiments were done to determine effects of sulfate and chloride ion on TCE degradation by ZVI-PRB.Results showed that sulfate and chloride ion had a dual effect on TCE degradation in the system of ZVI-PRB.As sulfate concentration increased, the efficiency of TCE degradation got better.Sulfate could inhibit the reaction when its concentration was low, however, when its concentration increased, sulfate had a promoting action to the reaction. As chloride ion concentration increased, the efficiency of TCE degradation became worse. When there was a low concentration, chloride ion had a promoting action to the reaction, and when its concentration increased, chloride ion could inhibit the reaction. The study showed that the experiment column can adsorb chloride ion.
