Abstract
In this paper, an indirect optimization method using finite element analysis is proposed, which helps the design of a linear ultrasonic traveling wave motor of the ring type. Numerical investigations show that the optimization technique can ensure two coincidental eigenfrequencies of the expected orthogonal modes. Experimental resonance frequencies and bending vibration amplitudes of the prototype stator are tested by using a laser-doppler-vibrometer. The experimental results show that the difference of resonance frequencies of the bending mode does coincide with the corresponding eigenfrequency- difference.
