Abstract

Microwave(MW)treated wood flour was added into poly(vinyl chloride)(PVC)matrix leading to PVC/wood-flour composites.Effects of MW treating on the Izod notched impact strength and tensile strength of the composites were investigated.By MW treating of wood flour in de-ionized water, the Izod notched impact strength increased by 13.79%~28.41%,and tensile strength by 5.87%~ 27.14%.This MW treating method was extended to treat wood flour in an acryl amide(AM)solu- tion, and FTIR showed that grafting reaction between wood flour and AM occurred during MW treat- ing.Fractured surfaces were examined by scanning electron microscope, which indicated that MW treated wood flour composites had a better compatibility with PVC than untreated ones.
