The change of mourning clothes in the Zhou Dynasty seen from the arrangement and interpretation of Mourning scripture

The mourning apparel system, formed in the Zhou dynasty, has ever since produced a far-reaching impact on later generations, and attracted attention from many scholars. But owing to the lack of references, researches on Mourning have been still lingering at the linguistic level. However, this system was not constant in the Zhou Dynasty. Through analysis of the arrangement and interpretation of Mourning scripture, there can be found such obvious differences between the treatment of being close to relatives and looking up to the upper as the imprinting of the ritual change. This reflected transition from the Western Zhou Dynasty to the Eastern Zhou Dynasty when, along with the gradual strengthening of hierarchy, looking up to the upper principle went beyond the being close to relatives principle so that patriarchal background became implicit, while the monarch gradually became explicit.
