Different radiotherapy systems in causing radiation pneumonitis a comparative study

OBJECTIVE To study and compare the influence of different radiotherapy systems of the incidence of radiation pneumonitis and pulmonary infection.METHODS The incidence of radiation pneumonitis and pulmonary infection of 100 patients(group A)treated with three-dimensional conformal radiotherapy and 100 patients(group B)treated with conventional radiotherapy in our hospital from Jun 2008 to Oct 2010 were analyzed and compared,then the serum CRP,SOD,MDA and IL-6 of the two groups were compared.RESULTS The incidence(7.0% vs 11.0%)of radiation pneumonitis and pulmonary infection of group A was lower than that of group B,the serum CRP(6.02±1.13)μg/ml、SOD(72.64±5.98) U/L、MDA(2.88±0.57)mmol/L and IL-6(15.24±3.66) pg/ml of the group A after the radiotherapy was lower than those of group B(15.67±2.26)μg/ml,(90.32±4.36)U/L,(4.02±0.58)mmol/L,(31.14±4.30)pg/ml,(P0.05),there were significant differences or there were very significant differences.CONCLUSION The influence of three-dimensional conformal radiotherapy for the patients treated with radiotherapy is smaller,and it can decrease significantly the incidence of radiation pneumonitis and pulmonary infection,and is worthy of clinical popularization and application.
