Application of Twin block appliance in early angle classII malocclusion

Objective:To investigate the application of Twin block appliance in early angle classⅡmalocclusion.Methods:A total of 32cases of orthodontic patients were randomly divided into observation group(16cases)and control group(16cases).Twin block appliance was applied to improve relation between the jaws and then straight wire appliance was applied to correct malocclusion.For the control group,straight wire appliance was applied to correct malocclusion.Treatment effect and transformation before and after treatment were compared.Results:The observation group's treatment time was(26.8±1.2)months,significantly less than(32.5±1.7)months of the control group,the difference was statistically significant(P0.05).After treatment,both groups had neutral molar relationship,stable occlusal relationship,and normal anterior teeth overbite.But after treatment,antedisplacement of jawbone was obvious in the observation group,improvement in the rate of length and the height of jawbone were obviously higher than that of the control group(Pall0.05).Improvement of data in the sagittal line and the vertical line after treatment was significant in the observation group comparing with that in the control group(Pall0.05).Conclusion:Twin block appliance is useful for treatment of early angle classⅡ malocclusion since it can stimulate the growth of mandible and correct sagittal jaw relations.Thus it is worthy to recommend.
