Abstract
Inter-domain routing in Internet is coordianted by inter-domain routing protocol. The border gateway protocol (BGP) is widely used to exchange the network layer reachability information among autonomous systems (ASes). BGP allows each AS to apply diverse local policies for selecting and propagating routes. However, it is possible for a group of ASes to independently define BGP policies that together lead to BGP routing oscillation. In this paper, we present an Abstract model of BGP, and analyze the impact of the BGP policies on routing stability with a simple topology example.
