Abstract
Based on similarity principle,a water model was established with the ratio of model: prototype=1:3,and a tundish prototype for two strands slab continuous casting in Lianyuan Iron Steel Group was studied. The results show that the plug flow area in tundish is relatively small only with turbulence inhibitor and dam,and the dead area is relatively large. The dead area in tundish decreases because of the hole in the dam,and obvious short flow won't appear.Appropriate control devices in optimized tundish are uing the dam with holes, the turbulence inhibitor and the weir.Compared with original tundish, the average resident time of optimized tundish increases from 343 s to 387 s,the dead area fells to 9.8% from 20.0%,and the retention time increases from 61 s to 99 s.
