Abstract
The flow control unit of the tundish of the heavy plate continuous caster in the No.1 Steel-making Plant of Anshan Iron Steel Corporation has been optimized and a math model for the actual hot metal flow in the tundish established by cold state physical modeling method and thereby the velocity fields of the hot metal flow before and after optimization of the tundish have been obtained.Experimental results show that the configuration of the original tundish and arrangement position are undesirable and the duration time of the hot metal in the tundish has been increased and the area of dead zone in the tundish obviously decreased since installation of a turbulence inhibitor in the tundish and optimization of its configuration.Actual results indicate that the average inclusion area in the samples of the hot metal and in the first and third slabs have been drastically cut down.
