Abstract

Objective To investigate the nutritional status of iodine for pregnant women in Guangzhou. Methods The urinary iodine was measured by spectrophotometer. Content of T 4,TSH in serum was determined by radioimmunoassay(RIA).Results The median of urinary iodine in mid pregnant and later pregnant women was 249.3 and 241.2 μg/L,respectively. The proportions with urinary iodine100 μg/L in mid pregnant and later pregnant women were 4.5% and 12.5%,respectively. The average T 4 level in mid pregnant women was (157.0±66.4)nmol/L,58.2% of them were within 54~174 nmol/L(recommended rang)and 38.8% were above 174 nmol/L. The average T 4 level of later pregnant women was(124.4±59.4)nmol/L,78.3% of them were within 54~174 nmol/L and 13.0% were above 174 nmol/L. The proportion of TSH5 mU/L in mid pregnant was 36.4% and in later pregnant was 81.8%(P0.01).Conclusions The pregnant women in Guangzhou have good nutritional status of iodine. The proportion of TSH5 mU/L in later pregnant women is high(81.8%).
