Abstract
The heat treatment process of a new Al-Mg-Si-Cu alloy(Al-1.2%Mg-0.9%Si-0.6%Cu)was studied by mechanical properties test and metallographic observation. The results indicate that a reasonable heat treatment process of the alloy is solution at 550℃ for 2 hours, then quenched with water, aged at 185℃ for 2 hours followed by 200℃ for 1hour.Its tensile strength can reach over 340MPa and the hardness over 105HB,as well as the elongation over 12%,because of the fine and dispersed precipitates resulting in an excellent age hardening.
