Abstract

Effects of heat treatment on mechanical properties of Al-Mg-Si-Cu alloy were studied. The heat treatment experiments including solution, aging delay and artificial aging were carried out on the microalloyed aluminum alloy after casting and extrusion, and the heat treatment process was optimized.Microstructure and mechanical properties of the alloy were analyzed with optical microscope,Vickers hardness tester and electronic testing machine. The results indicate that the overburning sensitive temperature of Al-Mg-Si-Cu alloy is 620 ℃,and a preferable comprehensive mechanical property of the alloy can be obtained when solution treated at 520-580 ℃ for 40-120 min.The best heat treatment process of the alloy is 520 ℃×(40-120) min solution +165 ℃×10 h aging. The aging delay time after solution has a less effect on the Al-Mg-Si-Cu alloy than the 6082 alloy, but it should be controlled within 3 h.
