Abstract

Using the ecological footprint model to research and evaluate the situation about the use of natural resources and the pressure of human activities on the ecosystem in Zhejiang Province and and then judging the state of sustainable development provides a theoretical significance and scientific significance for sustainable development. We've applied the adjusted ecological footprint theory and methods to calculate the ecological footprint of 11 cities in Zhejiang Province in 2002 and 2005,compared from the regional differences and analysed ecological footprint of the geographical distribution features for Zhejiang Province. The results show that there were different levels of ecological deficit in 11 cities of Zhejiang Province, and the 2005 is bigger than the 2002,Ningbo is of the largest per capita ecological deficit in 2005 and reached 4.0030 hm2/per,which followed by Jiaxing, and the smallest is Lishui, with only 0.2111hm2/per.This shows that the 11 cities in Zhejiang Province are confronted with gradual increased pressure on ecosystem accompany with the economic development.Zhejiang,at present,is in a state of unsustainable. It's necessary to improve the efficiency of the use of resource in Zhejiang, promoting conservation-oriented production and consumption patterns of life and reduce ecological footprint to achieve sustainable development.
