Abstract

To provide the scientific support for the sustainable development,on the basis of the ecological footprint model, this paper evaluates the state of the sustainable development in ZheJiang Province by assessing the utilization of the nature resources and the ecosystem pressure caused by the human activities. The paper also analyzes the environmental stresses that Zhejiang Province received in the development process in the 16 years by applying the adjusted ecological footprint computing model to calculate the ecological footprint of time Sequence from 1991 to 2006 in Zhejiang Province. The results show that the ecological deficit existed from 1991 to 2006,and the average per capita ecological deficit even reached 2.326hm2 in 2006.It indicates the production of biological resources and the ability of energy consumption exceed the ecological carrying capacity. In other words, the economic and social development of Zhejiang Province is unsustainable. Therefore,we should enhance the efficiency of resource utilization, advocate conservation-oriented production and living habit so as to lessen ecological footprint.
