Abstract

To solve urgent traffic problems in downtown areas,more than 10 Chinese cities have undertaken the urban rail transit(URT) project,and more cities are planning to build it.This paper argues that sufficient attention has been given to the efficiency of URT,especially in the process of planning.The path toward achieving URT efficiency is to match urban rail transit network with city spatial structures and integrate different modes of public transit.
