Abstract

Xianyan NO. 1, Xiangyan NO. 5 and Xiangyan NO. 10 were used in the exsperimem to study effects of stress. The results indicated that under stress, AsA content always decreased; The protective enzyme (SOD, POD and CAT) activities increased at first and then decreased; The MDA content increased after decreasing a little. On the whole, under stress, the high drought resistent cultivar kept great AsA content and protective enzyme activities (or increase of activities), and kept little MDA content. However, the low resistant - cultivar was opposite to. These biochemical indexes and their changes indicated that MDA content can be used as straight indexes to identify the resistence of pepper. SOD and CAT activities can be used as direct indexes. However, POD activity is unsuitable to be used as indexes to identify the resistence of pepper.
