Correlation between serum C-reactive protein and severity of coronary artery disease

Abstract

AIM To assess the correlation of serum C-reactive protein(CRP) and the severity of coronary artery disease(CAD).METHODS Ninety-eight cases diagnosed with CAD by coronary angiography(CAG) were divided into three groups: stable angina(32 cases),unstable angina(46 cases) and acute myocardial infarction(20 cases).Twenty-three cases with normal angiography were used as the control.single injuries(56 cases) and complex injuries groups (42cases).The serum content of CRP was measured.RESULTS CRP was higher in the cases with CAD than in controls(P0.05).The serum level of CRP was significantly higher in unstable angina group than in stable angina and the level of CRP in AMI group was markedly higher than the above 2 groups(P0.00).In complex artery narrowing group,the CRP content was significantly higher compared with that with single artery injuries(P0.01).CONCLUSION There is a close relationship between the serum level of CRP and the severity of coronary artery disease.
